I loved this book! It had great character development and I identified with the characters so well. It was easy read and captivating. I loved the strong cultural aspects in it, especially the description of the melting pot that takes place in the U.S. but also how different all the cultures are. Great book to teach about books on values such as hope and humility.
Absolutely loved this one--it took me awhile to get into because the fantasy history was just as dusty as real history, but once we reached the binding ceremony, it took off. I particularly loved the look at cross-cultural relations and communication. Sylvi's relationships with both her family and Ebon are realistic and warm. One question that stuck in my mind was why Fthoom was such a threat, but I guess his political power is stronger than it seemed (the ending shows this...I'm just not convinced until right at the very end). Looking forward to the second volume!
