Quite a useful guide to the more common wild flowers, shrubs and trees found across the UK with photographs and short descriptions of each. The photos tend to be more helpful when identifying a species but the descriptions help reinforce this by giving the habitat types and likely areas where each species will be found. Not particularly field friendly though.
Classic marine science journal of Steinbeck's trip to the Sea of Cortez. Only Steinbeck could write so poetically about collecting squishy sea life.
Love, love, love this book. Initially it is the story of Jim Williams, who was tried and acquitted multiple times of murdering Danny Hansford (a first in the US legal system). But as you read on, it is so much more than that. John Berendt takes us for a tour of Savannah, GA's society, and through him we meet transvestites, voodoo priestesses, society matrons and con artists. It's brilliantly written.
Wow. Great book, I see why it's a classic. One of those that seems super relevant even though it was written 40 years ago. I love the quote about Americans trying to create a life with meaning from things you can buy in a gift shop. Also, after quoting the serenity prayer, which for some reason Billy has framed in his Optometry office, Vonnegut says, "There were three things Billy couldn't change: his past, his present, and his future." Dark, dark, dark! But funny.
