** spoiler alert ** Brazilian artists/writers Fabio Moon & Gabriel Ba deliver a book that is both contemplative & heartfelt. This is a comic book that illustrates how life is comprised of simple moments that make us who we are. This 10-part series takes us to the different stages of Bras Olivas Domingo's life and each issue ends with his death. The readers are never really given an explanation as to why he dies at the end of each issue. An explanation doesn't really matter. This book will make one rethink about the things that really matter. The things that in our lives that we took/are taking for granted. I would know.
Wonderful! Completely enchanting, and I'm using that word deliberately because this book is about dueling magicians, in addition to being about a fantastic circus (no creepy clowns in sight!) and about a love story. I loved the style and the non-linear plotting and the use of tone as I was turning the pages breathlessly. A great fantasy debut--I would read anything else this author tries after this.
Even though this was an Oprah book, it's pretty good. Family history told kind of as a soap opera, yet knowing it really happened is compelling. Tademy brings 3 female ancestors to life successfully.
