I was part of a huge sleep study in college and perhaps because of that, have always tried to keep up with sleep research. [Insert joke about dozing off while reading sleep studies here.:] Apparently, there has been a huge leap in scientists' understanding of sleep since about 2000, and this author uses the new ideas to finetune recommendations about why, when and how much to nap. She also attempts to combat anti-nap American culture. Lots of luck.

This book was oddly engaging. The language is so vivid and clear! There were times that I laughed out loud because I could relate to something the author had said, and then there were other times I was moved to tears the situation he described was so tragically sad. The more memoirs I read, the more I realize there is a little bit of craziness in all us, yet no one seems exempt from believing their situation is unique.

I was reading this on the subway and a cute, bookish boy gushed as he got off the train, "Oh, that is a wonderful story ..." I will settle on bittersweet. I think I almost cried toward the end. Vivid descriptions of the Nebraska landscape and lots of empathy developed with the characters. It really takes you through the seasons and you feel the carefree summers and burdensome winters.

I was spending so much time writing out the URLs he recommends, I finally just ordered my own copy. Excellent resource.
