Don't let the cover ease you into thinking this will be a pleasant or easy book to read. Set in the 1940s, a girl and her mother and brother are taken from Lithuania one night by the Soviets and embark on a horrifying journey of disease, poverty, fear, and death to the outlands of Siberia. This book made me realize that while I have read a lot of children and teen books about the Holocaust, I have read very few about Stalin. What an evil man. Excellent historical novel and definite recommendation for the collection.
