Looking for a substitute for Curious Incident... for our summer reading list and this was suggested to me. Did NOT like it. The story rang very false, the main character's speech pattern was annoying, and everyone acted as if he were "retarded" instead of as if he had Asperger's. Sorry, not a fan of this one.

It gave me tremendous pleasure to write this book. i've always been interested in Freud, but it was when I read the biography of him by his disciple, Ernest Jones, that I was inspired to write about him. I tried to make the book funny, sad, and thoughtful.

Young Hobbs is an assured storyteller and amazingly adept at structural placement and character nuances. I'm very proud to have worked on it. Can't wait for his next one.

This was my first Kristan Higgins novel and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly engrossed I became. Let me say that I started my vacation with this book and that I don't normally read romance. However, this was just the right mix of lighthearted wit, family snarkiness, dog lovers and romance to not turn me off. It was a pleasant read, perfect for relaxing. I would recommend this to someone who likes romance without the graphic sex scenes.

I am excited for the next one to come out on Tuesday, August 23rd! If you haven't read this already, Haddix is more than worth the small amount of time you will invest in reading any of her novels.

I wanted to buy this book while I was visiting Iceland. A few months later, while unpacking again (the story of my life...) I discovered this book, among a collection of about 100 books my father brought me a long time ago (while I was still in high school). I enjoyed the classic touch but didn't appreciate the way "a jew" was considered a typical curse, just like "a whore"... But perhaps it is the time in which the book was written to blame and not the Noble-prize-winning author... The book invites you to a philosophical debate about morality and sociology. Rather interesting, but much less engaging than 1984, in my humble opinion of course.
