The only reason I don't give this book a five is because it is an analogy throughout the entire book to car racing, something I don't really have an interest in. So I did have to skim through quite a few of the racing pages. But otherwise, it is a very well written, thoughtful book and I love reading from the dog's point of view. This book was better than A Dog's Purpose, but not quite as good as Marley and Me.
I've read almost everything else Rutherfurd has written (London is by far the best) and The Forest fell short. The first two sections were really interesting but the plot just dragged for the next several hundred pages. I found myself skimming most of the book from that point. Not a terrible book but definitely not his best.
This book is a lot like the movie, Crash, where all the characters tell different parts of the story, from different vantage points, and it all comes together in an interesting jigsaw puzzle of a story. Can't wait to read his new book about growing up with five stepfathers. Should be interesting.
