A horror novel - a young boy finds his grandmother in a heap on the kitchen floor, her skin cold to the touch. He runs to the neighbor for help; when he returns, his grandmother is cooking dinner, acting as if nothing is wrong. Months later, the boy is swimming out beyond the buoy despite his grandmother's admonitions to stay close to shore - he feels the undertow dragging him under, but he is saved by his grandmother, who sacrifices her life for his. Fast forward - the boy is now a man with a family of his own, and he suffers incredibly vivid, gruesome nightmares. He begins to lose time. What is happening to him? Mythology, ghosts, psychic phenomena...good stuff!
Meh.
Seriously this book hurt because it was such a waste of my time. I hate stories where the author builds a plot and then at the very last 50 pages throws a character with all this motive. If you can build it, don't write it. This felt like a knock off discount murder mystery. UGH! I didn't event finish the last 20 pages because I was so irritated.
This is an amazing SF adventure/mystery/epic. I loved this book.
