The author does a good job in creating tone and mood. In the beginning of the novel, I felt the anxiety of the main character, Emily. The words flowed smoothly and I think that the author wants the reader to feel Emily's frantic moods. It worked for this reader. Emily thinks like I do...never in a linear line. She starts thinking about one thing and goes off on a tangent, yet ends up at the present moment and makes a point. I am an English teacher and there were so many things that I wanted to share with my students. It was pretty funny because many of the topics that Emily is studying in school I was teaching. The negative aspects are that characters seem to come and go. For instance I was left wondering about the character of Laura. I mean, she'd be there and then she wouldn't be there. It was weird. I am eagerly looking forward to another book by this author!
