Me he leído varias veces las Rimas de Bécquer pero lo que eran las Leyendas, las había dejado siempre de lado. Esta vez opté por hacer todo lo contrario. Me salté la primera parte del libro y me sumergí en la segunda de lleno. Había algunas que ya conocía, como El monte de las ánimas o El rayo de luna pero las demás, no. Y he de decir que podría haber pasado sin ellas. Es de estos casos en los que leída una, leídas todas. Y mira que me lo tomé con calma y procuraba no leer más de una leyenda a la vez... pero el tono moralizante y religioso estaba siempre presente, la temática era casi siempre la misma: un caballero lleva una vida en la que reina el pecado, tiene una aparición de algún tipo que resulta ser un aviso de Dios y decide cambiar para siempre y convertirse en el hombre más pío que jamás se haya visto. Comprendo que esto se deba a la importancia que tenía la religión en aquella época, pero aún así... Me esperaba algo más, si soy sincera.
I've read a lot about the Civil War history in my county. Most of it centers around the Battle of Ball's Bluff but there was a lot more to it than that. I enjoyed reading about the politics of Loudoun back then; northern part of the county for Union, southern part for secession. Not a bad book.
My kids loved this book. We bought the box set of DiCamillo's books, after reading Desperaux. I hope it is something they will come back to later and read independently. It was really good.
Awesome info for the oyster lover that I am. Being in the Midwest it is really hard to find oysters in their prime and a lot of the ones I had in the past in Chicago were flavorless. I always thought that the smaller oysters of the West Coast were the only ones that could provide this salty, briny flavor I love si much to balance the sweetness of the meat. I now know it has everything to do with seasonality. Great food book, filled with recipes and good addresses.
