A tough act to follow - Sectret life of bees I enjoyed Nelle's eccentric friends, similar to characters in "The Devine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood", but found the relationship with the Monk a bit over the top.
I really wanted to like this one. I was totally on-board with the mind-body fertility connection idea - I completely buy stress reduction, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, etc. as ways to increase fertility. However the author kept making jabs against "traditional talk therapy" as "ineffective" to promoting fertility, with absolutely no data to back up his assertions. Then in the "action plan" at the end, he basically said "You'll never get pregnant if you run (or even jog), because the constant jostling with through your uterus out of alignment." Really? I'd like to see some data to back that up...and I think Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe (two recently pregnant Olympic marathoners) might disagree. I much preferred "Making Babies" over this book of pseudoscience.
I didn't much care for it. Usually I like the book much better than the movie, but not this time.
Splendid. I last read this twenty years ago and it still bears reading again. Only four stars because the story is TOLD rather than SHOWN but heartily recommended nonetheless. A clever twist, too.
Very funny story about a duck who thinks he's a DIY expert in a boat this time.
