i loved this even more than jane eyre when i read it, although i think it's fair to say i simply love charlotte bronte better now that i'm older. villette lacks the fantasy-fulfillment element that drives Jane Eyre, but i think that only makes it stronger - and sadder.
A classic in Christian apologetics. I do not always agree with Mr. Lewis' point of view (his acceptance of misogyny in religion being a prime example), but overall he presents a sensible and balanced explication of his beliefs, never retreating behind moth-eaten tropes like 'we are not capable of understanding God's plan,' 'faith means believing in things that can't be proven,' or similar.
This was my favorite of this series. I enjoyed every entry (except for the 'Bodies' essay....yuck)
A delight to dream when young.
