A fun, quick read about what skills/options you might like to have at your disposal if the world as we know it were to end...briefly covering pretty much everything from how to obtain a second citizenship to how to skin a goat... And while dwelling on all the myriad ways in which our cities could be destroyed or the social order could break down and have us fending off looters seems to contradict one of Strauss's steps to living longer--lower your anxiety level--what's most striking about the book is how well it's written, filled with wonderful journalistic descriptions of people and little gems of insight... Has sort of a kumbaya "it's the journey not the destination ending" that might make some groan, but I thought it worked pretty well... And it's really, really funny...
I LOVE this book - great message, very encouraging.
This one is a bit grim, but of course the Discworld isn't all fun and games. Or rather, it is, but the fun isn't all funny and the games can be deadly. Sam Vimes is out of his element when his inquiries get him involved with Dwarf politics, and in this story he suffers like a Craig Thomas hero. Thank gods for the wizards, the Duchess and Nobby Nobbs.
See, I always liked this one. Granted, when I read this German book about Henry IV's ascension to the throne, I felt less bad, but that whole bit about his fortunes being in a bucket going down a well - I don't know - I always liked that bit.
I loved it so much. I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT> D:
Ashley Donegal the heiress of the Donegal Plantation, which was believed to be hunted by the ancestors, finds herself having a recurring dream with the boyfriend, Jake Mallory. She pushed him away being unable to accept that he had the special ability of talking and seeing ghosts. Jake, who is now a special agent for the FBI unit of paranormal investigators, has being having a dream where she is calling him for help. His unit is contacted by Ashley’s grandfather for help, after a disappearance of one of the en-actors of the Civil War battle at the plantation, and then is later found dead simulating the death of the original Marshal Donegal. He is the first to arrive, to find that things go from bad to worse, after more bodies are found. Once the team gets there, Ashley is forced to accept, in order to solve the mystery and find the killer, that she also sees and hears her ancestors, who are trying to help and protect her. To make things right and clear old secrets they will risk their lives to protect the plantation and those around them. Sad to say, that although the story is very entertaining and easy to read, it lacked oomph on the suspense and in my opinion a bigger involvement of the rest of the crew would have added to the chemistry of the characters and the development of the plot. This is the 2nd Book of the series Krewe Hunters, but it can be read as a standalone. If you would like to know more of the background on the rest of the group, you should read the 1st, which by the way is very good. review link: http://www.onceuponatwilight.com/2011...
