Difficult and sad, but poignant and touching.
Ejersbo writes well, but an overly bitter and cynical perspective ruins what is otherwise a well researched insight into the modern cross-section between Europe and Africa. One senses a TCK's vengeance behind all the emotionally flat descriptions the basest of human behaviors.
I loved these books when I was in elementary school. They were fun mysteries. I didn't know they were still around.
There were many beautiful ideas floating around in this book, and the characters, though thin as tissue paper, floated beautifully in them. I liked the air of mystery, the idea of a soul on a tether, the untraceable and romanticized video clips, the cool hunters, the internationalism, the crazy ideas Gibson must have ripped from the headlines. It doesn't make for a seamless stew, but it is an interesting jumbalaya of ideas. You might find it dated now, but it was good 3 years ago.
