My friend Montse in Barcelona turned me on to reading as preparation for a trip. I'm not talking about reading guidebooks (though I love them nonetheless) but rather reading something written about a place, by an author from the place, or, my personal favorite, about being in that destination as a visitor/outsider. A Moveable Feast plays up to everything I love about travel writing. I'm a unashamed Francophile, and Paris is a cherished travel destination for me. The anecdotes Hemingway penned of real-life American expats filled me with a quirky joy and a pang for a life that would have thrilled me to have lived. If you're a total Paris geek like me, you can easily map out all the places E.H. wrote about to make your own lit-inspired walking tour for your next visit. Also makes for a good read on the flight over!
I think I have cover lust. The cover is eerily beautiful *.*
I liked this one, but it had a bit too much tongue and cheek for me. A little would have gone a long way, but it was on every page. It make me laugh and cry though and that was good.
