Great Fantasy book for 9-14yr. And of course I loved it too!
After reading The Graveyard Book, it is certainly easy to understand how it won the Newbery Award for 2009. While I certainly haven't read everything that was published last year, of the books I did read, it would be my pick for the Newbery. The Graveyard Book begins with a baby escaping almost certain death as his family is murdered. The baby somehow makes it to a nearby graveyard where the inhabitants promise to protect him and raise him. They name him Nobody Owens, Bod for short, and he spends the next several years of his life growing up among the dead. But the one who wanted to murder Bod is still out to get him, and when Bod is a teenager it will become a life or death battle.
Deep characterization and a compelling plot kept me reading into the wee hours a couple of nights in a row. I fell in love with the midwife and her family. Loved it!
