If there were justice in the world, there would be a Flavia De Luce amusement park next to Harry Potter World. These stories are so charming and funny that I never want them to end. A Red Herring Without Mustard is a more complicated and layered effort than the first two installments in the series. There are two mysteries for Flavia to solve, a death and a brutal attack. Along the way, we learn about gypsies and a religious sect called The Hobblers that both figure in the mysteries. Flavia begins to mature as a person as well. She still torments her sisters Ophelia and Daphne, but Flavia shows some grudging acceptance of both in this installment. Flavia also must come to terms with her father's struggles to hang on to Buckshaw, the family estate and she discovers a portrait of her deceased mother. I am not a mystery fan, so I don't get wrapped up in the plots of these stories. Perhaps a mystery lover would find these novels lacking in thrills or plot twists, but to me the details of the novels and the world Alan Bradley has created is so full of wit that these stories are a joy to read.
It's a really good book. It talks about a family that goes on the Titanic and is trying to survive the sinking of it.
** spoiler alert ** The Twilight series is a classic already, but I must say this is my least favourite out of the books. I feel REALLY sorry for Jacob...and for Bella. Edward definitely showed an uglier, more selfish side.
