zadie smith is funny when you least expect it and takes on the immigrant story in splintered and multicultural London in an entirely fresh way. a really smart book that never stops asking questions. note: a little tough to get into and get used to her style...but worth it once you commit!
I thought it was a great plot, but she didn't seem to know how to end the story so it just sort of ended with me asking, "That is it?"
A powerful too to help those who have been victims of sexual abuse of any degree or severity. I greatly admire Dan Allender and would recommend pretty much anything that he has written. He is thoughtful, honest and has a clear grasp of reality that he easily weaves the hope of Christ into.
so, I didn't finish this book....it went from crime fiction to romance novel...just couldn't do it.
Overall I enjoyed the book. The fact that the main characters would get engaged without knowing some of the formative aspects of their lives was a little disturbing. Also, there seemed to be a significant gap between the one Christie telling Robert about his deployment and suddenly finding yourself during the actual deployment. The other thing I didn't like about this book was the abrupt ending. In some ways I realize why the author did this, but I genuinely turned the page expecting a continuation of the story suddenly finding myself with the author's bio. On the other hand I overall enjoyed the way that Ms. Noel wrote the story, aside from the points I mentioned above. It flowed well and drew me in from the begining. I also enjoyed the humor of the book. It is what made me want to look up more of the author's work. I am looking forward to anything else I can find by this author and hope that she keeps on developing and writting. Congratulations on a very enjoyable book!!
