Playful, perhaps overly so, and only sparsely repopulated, which at a mere 200 highly formatted pages provided less than I was expecting, but there were a handful of passages that struck a cord.
read this book after i saw the movie. i actually liked the portrayal in the movie more, but i am in the minority on that count. but the book is still a great case study of a time period that we have made many many assumptions about. the deep desperation of a woman living in a word where she simply does not belong and knows her only salvation is to dump her never-to-be-realized ambitions onto her poor weak husband who is far less a man than she.
This was a very interesting book, spiritual and enlightening on the culture at the time of Jesus if it was for real. I enjoyed it alot, and wasn't ready for it to be over when I was done.
