I really quite liked this book. It was a very interesting story. Heart breaking yet shows how life still goes on despite very severe hardships. It tells the story of Rachel who in the late 1800's contracts leprosy and is forced to live in the leper colony of Molokai. It is really a life story that begins when she is 6 and then follows her through her death and burial. She finds love, friendship, the joys and heartbreak of motherhood. I will say there were some interesting twists that made me want to keep reading to see what would happen. This is a well written entertaining book, thanks Melissa for the pick, would not have read it otherwise.

My feelings about this book are quite confusing--mostly, I was underwhelmed. I was not engrossed. Bits of the storyline that were meant to be exciting seemed forced or very unrealistic. So much hype about another book set on a spaceship with all the pressures of saving humanity.
