Hmmm. I must not have refined enough taste. I read this book over spring break and didn't like it ... never even remembered to post it here. I'm not sure if I even finished it. And tonight at book club I heard that apparently it won a National Book Award? What is up with that? According to Amazon Booklist called it a sophisticated thriller. I didn't get that at all. PS So I've read a couple more blog reviews about it. And I STILL don't get it. I knew that Evie's stepdad was into something wrong and her mother was trying to ignore it and pretend the whole Florida thing was a fun vacation. But the more I think about it the more I think I got bored and didn't ever even get to the part where Evie truly realizes the adults in her life are far from perfect and exactly what they are hiding. So what does that say? That I didn't give the book a chance? That I am too impatient and demand easier plot lines? Or that the people who gave it an award are off their rockers. I will have to give it one more shot, I suppose.
