Amy Tan does a wonderful job painting a picture of culture and time periods, so in this book you get an idea of what WWII China was like during the Japanese invasion. The book was intriguing because the characters are rich and the plot moves quickly. (view spoiler) Also, there was an overall negative undertone of the narrators' mentality, which affected my outlook while reading the book. Perhaps the negativity was mostly cultural, but it hampered my enjoyment of the book- definitely a half-empty kind of feeling throughout.

Absolutely amazing! I have no words for this book! It captivated my mind. I could not eat, sleep, drink or do anything. I felt like sticking to this book whatsoever. Just amazing. Please those who haven't read this book, please read it. Though some may find it really stupid or anything (i found a lot of reviews like that) it was amazing to me. I am just in love with Illuminati. Anti-matter, particle physics, Vatican City, etc etc etc... It makes you travel all along Rome. Im just in love with this book. It's a book that really woke me up after the not-waking-up books i read earler.. God, i love this book man!!!

I've read this book 3 times and will probably read it again one day. I discovered that this book received a lot of criticism when it was first published. It makes sense because following The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck had a lot to live up to. Not to mention, East of Eden does possess a heavy prophetic overtone (Steinbeck taking on a "god like" role whose mission it is to make spiritual proclamations through out the novel). Nevertheless, it works because his so called "sermons" are not domineering, rather they are observations of beauty and love throughout time. At the core of the novel is good-versus-evil - yet good prevails as an anti-hero (Caleb) not the typical pre-modernist good (Aaron). My only criticism (although I hate to criticize such a masterpiece) would perhaps be that Kathy's villain is almost too evil, leaving her a bit too unrealistic and unimaginable. But he more than makes up for it with other characters such as Lee, Samuel, and Charles. If I ever have a son I'm naming him Caleb. Well, maybe....but that's how much I love this book.

Normally I love Bill Bryson, but I'm having a hard time making it through this one! Never finished it.

Loved it. Will definitely read it again. It was so imaginative....

As with the past books - I adore the 7 demons and their love/attraction for each other. I love how some have started to verbalize their feelings and I just go all mushy in some scenes. I liked the new vamps - they are cutesy The fight scene was probably the best one to date. More action and direct and BEST thing yet is there was no stupid plot ideas like in previous books. BUT There is a downside - Echo was a A$$hole in a few scenes - I hate how he bosses the other men around. Its like Right you go do the washing, you do the cleaning, you do the cooking and I will go lie in bed doing nothing. I get a bit peeved with Echo at times but still like him in many scenes
