This has been a childhood staple that I come back to again and again and again. At least an annual read for me since 1990. Anyone who has ever felt isolated for being the brightest of the bunch in class will instantly see themselves reflected in this book. A great story that endures.
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one.
Lancaster is an anthropologist. He's written a very readable and compelling discussion of how our government is using panic over child sex abuse to create from offenders a class of social pariahs, and to take away the civil and human rights of Americans in general.
I can't wait to read this one - and Less Than Zero. He actually has two movies out based on two of his books; one for Generation X and one for Generation Y - quite impressive.
