it wasnt really a good bookk. well the begining was great but after like the first 50 pages it got really really ..bad ? io dont reacomend it to ANYONE because it was a suckish book!
Collection of letters by an energetic and creative mom of 4 boys during the 50's, 60's and 70's in Madison describing their life full of school, scouting, owning a small business, and family time. It was fun to read about things happening in places that we know(in fact, the last time I drove down Old Middleton Rd., I found myself trying to guess where their house would have been!). Her letters seemed idealized at first, all happiness and light in a big house with four growing boys but, over the course of 3 decades, they also show the hard times their family experienced and how they survived and moved on. I was sorry to see that Mrs. Willett died earlier this month but happy that she lived such a long and full life.
Yalom presents an account of psychology and psychotherapy from the perspective of existentialism. He argues that much of psychopathology derives from existential questions about the meaning of life, death, and such that haunt the human person. It's a refreshing change from the psychoanalytic, behaviorist, and neurobiological paradigms that often dominate the discourse in psychology. Those interested in philosophy, especially in its late 19th and 20th century Continental varieties, will find many resonances in Yalom's account.
Shindlers List previewed in Poland with survivors in attendance. She identified with the girl in the littler red coat. I enjoyed the first half of the book, but the end was sad and disappointing. A bit heavy. Unfortunately this is a sad result of many post WWII victims. Her childhood trauma consequently makes her a dysfunctional adult. Overall, I would say it helped me learn about the sadness of the holocaust.
It is one of those books that you need an imagination to get through. If you like this book you will like Brave New World.
