This quote reminded me of the basis of this book, "There are two ways to live -- you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle." --Thomas Edison

4.75 stars. Everything about this book was pitch-perfect: the historical detail, the setting's description, character development, plot progression-- everything. My favorite part (of course) was gradually changing my opinion of Ray as Livvy's understanding of him deepened. Creel leads us along so subtly that I almost didn't realize it was happening. If only we all could find a soft place to land after our troubles like Livvy did. If only we all could give, or receive, the kind of compassionate understanding, patience, kindness that she recieved. If you haven't read this book (especially if you enjoy WWII historical fiction) you MUST.

I am on my second copy of this book. It is my bible. If you want me to love you forever, just read a chapter of this book and stay up all night with me discussing it. My two favorites are "Resisting Rationality" and "Participatory Knowledge and the World in Virginia Woolf."
