absolutely beautiful writing. his discussions of race and democracy set the book apart.
I read LITTLE ALTARS EVERYWHERE right before reading this one. I felt that Wells lost continuity in this second installment which ruined the book for me. I still can't get over the number of women who consider themselves Ya-Yas and wonder if they really read the book. ViVi was a drunk who beat her children (and in the first book, molested the boys) and led an Id-driven life. And yet this is supposed to be a metaphorical book about female bonding? I don't think so.
