These last two books have made me want to travel to Ita-lee! Fun characters, and stories. It makes me appreciate small towns again!
I have loved every boook of hers that I have read...... I think this is my last one of hers to read
This book made it on the Top 10 Sci-Fi films that never existed and it makes sense, because it would make one kick ass over the top movie (provided it was done right by the right director and with the right cast (and that never ever happens)). Not that you really need a movie for a book this good. When most people think of Neal Stephenson they think of this book. It is full of great lines like: "Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world. If I moved to a martial arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad." and it has sword fighting, mobsters, skateboarding, virtual metaverses, pissed-off Inuit harpooners with poor impulse control, a fucking huge refugee raft attached to a decommissioned aircraft carrier and pizza delivery... And it is smart (Neal Stephenson is one of the best). A classic.
Great historical novel about the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, and was the basis for the 1993 movie Gettysburg. This book increased my interest about the American Civil War when I first read it back in the late 80s, and I have read it three times.
