Incredible old school sci-fi/fantasy set on an earth that's so old that the sun is dying out and people have de-evolved back to medieval times. The main character is a complete jerk and spends a good part of this 3-books-in-1 book devising ways to screw over other people so he can reach his ultimate goal; getting revenge on a laughing magician.
I really enjoyed this book. There is such a wide vocabulary used and Golding really paints a beautiful and haunting picture of the island. It's definitely more than an adventure story - it's a story about civilization and what happens when rules are thrown out the window. A very interesting and thought provoking book for sure - and a very wonderful read, at that! The ending was a little abrupt for me, but I guess that there was no other way to end it.
