I've been reading this one on and off since I was 14. I didn't understand then why it wasn't rated as highly as "Wuthering Heights", but even now that I can see the technical problems, I still love it as much. It can be a little hard for modern readers to get into, but once you get the feel for the old-timey speech patterns and plot pace, it's wonderful to fall into. Abused orphans, bigamy, beautiful romantic competition, fires, dramatic death, running away and starting a new life- it's all in there. Too many plot coincidences make it unbelievable, but it's meant to be enjoyable, and it is.

Perfect example of when the narrator adds to the enjoyment of an audio book. Hysterical! Literally laughed out loud at times.

this book was amazing. Kingsolver did a great job of creating a space in which her themes could unfurl through strong character development and descriptives.
