My favorite Georgette Heyer novel, read as a... 14 - 15 year old. :)
This book was absolutely gripping! So intriguing and yet, heartbreaking.
I recently read this book for a second time and loved it as much as the first time. It is a book about finding pupose in the events, roles and relationships in life. Finding freedom from a tormented past. Finding the meaning from our motives in life. Grieving and letting go. Recognizing the power of personal choices, seeking shelter and protection to emotionally heal from wounds in life. Searching for and finding the core of one's soul. A story of convention vs. wisdom from living, the ordinary vs. sublime. A story about spirituality, eroticism and forbidden feelings. We are reminded about the power of secrets in our lives, about creativity and inspiration, and the power of friendships and commitments. Ultimately, a story about stepping outside of your self imposed box to see, value and be inspired by the bigger picture of living your life and creating meaning, purpose and joy in your own life.
