Fantastic work of art. A must read for any DeLillo fan.
A wonderful free read! Trent is home because his BF Cal is celebrating his birthday - but they both end up in jail...... Trent gets the hots for one of the local cops; and Cal makes out with another (although, unknown to Trent, this one is Cal's lover). A lovely (happy for now) read, and isn't Trent just a super guy, putting himself in jail to support his friend!!
While I hadn't heard of this book, I was smitten with it within the first few chapters. It follows the lives of two college roommates: one impoverished (financially and emotionally), one rich (though quick to throw aside her wealth and priveledge). But it goes beyond the country/city mouse cliche to explore the relationship between the two women and the impact each has on the rest of their lives, as the move into two distincly different worlds. It's set in Manhattan in the 60s (in my own neighborhood on the UWS) and is a wonderful look into the period. Excellent all around.
The Mind's Eye is a rather good drama about Peri and Erimem becoming literally entagled in mindwarping plants, whie the Doctor tries to sort out the politics of the mission investigating the planet. Owen Teale and Rebecca Front are great guest stars, and Thomas Sangster appears as Peri's stepson - both Morris and Bryant get a good chance to show their talents in a different context. [return][return]Mission of the Viyrans is out of sequence, in that it's a single-episode piece on the same CD set as The Mind's Eye but set after Erimem's departure. Again we have Peri's reality being bent, this time by a virus and by the time-travellers fighting it, and some exceptionally good material for Nicola Bryant, but the punchline somewhat weakens the story.
