This one was a nice surprise. It was a full of detail and history but woven around a intriguing plot. The characters were fully fleshed out and kept me surprised. I know people are comparing it to Anne Rice better vampire novels and I will have to agree. Actually if you combined the best of her vampire novels with her Mayfair witches stories, you will get the feel of this book. Although you get a sense of timelessness in Rice's books, Harkness was able to give Discovery of Witches a very contemporary feel. There was as much science as there was sorcery, viruses as well as vampires. I hope everyone caught the homage to Anne Rice's vamps in the book! I don't buy DTB books anymore. I stick to ebooks as they are convenient, fit the budget and don't take up any space. I ordered a DTB copy of this one because it deserves a space on my bookshelf. I cannot wait for the next one!
