In Blood is Thicker, by Paul Langan, its about a teenager named Hakeem who moves from Bluford High school, to Detroit because his dad has cancer and he can't work on the job that he has in California. Hakeem doesn't want to move away from California to Detroit because of his friends, and Darcy, his girlfriend, but he has to move. When he moves in to Detroit he sees his old cousin, Savon and sees that he has changed alot. Hakeem and his cousin Savon fight alot and don't like each other and Hakeem thinks that Savon is stealing stuff from stores, because Savon keeps going out at night without telling anyone where he is going. Hakeem also meets a girl named Anika, and he likes her, but everyone says that she steals things, but he doesn't want to think that, but he still likes Darcy. Then Hakeem finds out that Savon didn't steal things, but that he is a rapper, and he gets alot of money by doing that. Anika leaves to California to escape from her problems. Hakeem has to go back to California, because Darcy's grandmother dies and he has to be with her for that. My critique of this book is that I would give it 4 out of 5 stars, because it was an interesting book to read. I also thought that this book was interesting because it was a relistic fiction book about a teenager who was moving away. I would recommend this book to people who like to read the Bluford books, and to people who like to read relistic fiction books on how it feels moving into a new place.

What a fantastic true story. I couldn't put it down. I just can't believe what our POW's in WWII had to put up with in Japan's prison camps.
