I read that Michael Chabon wrote this book straight out of college when he was 23. Well, I can believe it - there are certainly some awkwardly sketched scenes, and also some belabored points. However for the most part it's good. Chabon's writing pings my heart and the pingtime is slow. There are many quirks and characters he mentions that I have recognized in my life, such as the legendary exploits of the famous college kid and the best way to smoke cigarettes (in the rain). I would recommend reading it. I would faintly recommend reading it.
I cried when I read this on an airplane. I got nostalgic about the Idaho Spud Bar.
