The title says it all - this book covers everything. How we came to be, how earth supports life, how humans came to exist and theories as to why we became so dominant. Because it's Bryson, though, it's funny.
Nasty little people doing nasty little things. Another review said this was Palahniuk's worst work, so I will give him another try. He has a way with words and snarky observation. I did like the first chapter alot. But several chapters later I was feeling more and more soiled for having read this, another book I chose not to finish.
Jim Thompson writes the way Hemmingway wanted to write, but noir all the way. Dark, disturbing, violent, and gritty, there is a good story buried in here. I can't say I loved it, but it's stayed with me a good long time like a shadow.
