Bu hikaye her okuduğumda daha iyi olur! Jane harika bir kahraman ve kitap boyunca büyümesini seviyorum. Favorilerimden biri.

Otava's Great World History: Atlas Selection of maps from various situations in history (e.g. Persian empire, Paris during revolution) which support the reading of the books pretty well. The rest of the book is timelines and rulers for each country.

A really fantastic coming of age story. The main character is struggling through her turbulent middle school years, which sounds cliche, but I promise that it is not. Alice Winston is desperately trying to find herself in a family where depression, financial struggle and her sister's winning personality and surprising departure from town have overshadowed her as a person. It's a great story about struggling to find yourself when everything around you is out of your control. Parts of it are poignant and incredibly sad because of her clear lack of social conections, made cringe-worthy because of her intelligence. I think it is relatable on a lot of levels (not sure what that says about me...Alice tells a lot of lies, but I think most girls her age do that or everyone has gone through a phase where that seems like a good idea. If you're lucky you grow out of it, and I certainly have.) Was a bit sorry to have it come to an end and made my way through it pretty rapidly. The characters were well developed and you're almost left with the feeling that they are out there somewhere, carrying on their personal histories.

Amazing book! It was wonderfully written and extremely interesting. Kingsolver does an excellent job bringing each of the characters to life and then developing them. I cried and cried at...well, you'll know when you get there. Thoroughly enjoyable in a deep thinking, question your brain, kind of way. I totally recommend the book.
