** spoiler alert ** I really struggle to know quite what to feel about this. Do I think it was well written? Yes. Story-wise, I have my doubts though. When the narrative split, I was significantly less keen on one part than the other. Towards the end of the book, something pretty bad happens. I kind of thought that things might be going one way while hoping that they might go another. Unfortunately they went the way I thought rather than hoped. I'm not going to say what happened, but I'm hiding this for spoilers, because I think the suspicion is going to come to a lot of people. What happens is frankly pretty horrible. The consequences are glossed over a bit, too. While I like the character it happens too and don't want bad things to happen to them, it doesn't seem right to do things with serious emotional consequences and neglect those consequence. So yeah, I have somewhat mixed feelings so I'm kind of going with a middle-y three.
