I learned about some of Haiti's brutal history...a sad book about genocide and survivors and love. Beautiful prose.
The series takes a dark turn in this volume, changing all the previously established rules. I have no idea where it's headed, which is a very good thing for what is often a very tired genre. While it borrows too heavily from familiar sources for me to call it brilliant or groundbreaking, it's still a consistently good read.
