Bu kitabı çok sevdim. Anne Lamott benim için değerli. Onun hayatındaki çelişkilerle çok ilgiliyim.

Gerçekten iyi

Certainly not brilliant writing but so few books are out there that feature archives and archivists that it was still an OK read. Standard political intrigue, although the author (and his reviewers) seem to think it's all quite innovative.

I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. I enjoyed it quite a bit. 3.5 stars.

I like this book because it offers a real, yet non-racist reason why some cultures/societies came to dominate others. I feel like lots of people make pandering, non-explanations about colonialism in the 1500s that seem to rely on the belief that Europeans were evil and that oral traditions and close family ties are better really. This author doesn't do that, but he also doesn't suggest that Europeans are biologically better/more fit - he explains the differences by looking at geography/differences in available plants and animals in different parts of the world.

Spoiler Alert: Let me start by saying I am a HUGE dog lover and love nothing more than reading a great sappy dog book every now and then. Everyone needs a good cry, right?? After reading the synopsis and some of the Good Reads reviews, I was so looking forward to this book. I thought it would be funny with sad ending...since all books about dogs have sad endings. It really wasn't either. I thought the idea of having the story told by Enzo, the dog, was a good idea, something different...but all he talked about was racing(which makes sense once you get to the last page of the book), his wish to have thumbs and the "Devil Zebra". The Zebra was actually pretty amusing. The book is a very easy read...almost too easy to enjoy since you breeze right thorough it and think...hey...I'm done. When did that happen?? A few reviewers compared it to Marley and Me - not even close. I barely got teary eyed on this one and I am a big ol'sap when it comes to a good dog book! Not one tissue used. The concept for the book and the plot were great ideas but the author just didn't do it justice.
