The Secret Life of Bees was a pleasant read. Though the story is simple, the writing is extremely sensory, which I love. Set in the South during the sixties, a young girl runs away from home with her housekeeper. The story deals with mother-hunger: the main character finds out more details about her own mother's life and death and, ultimately, finds mother-figures in the women around her...and herself, of course. Although, that part was the least believable bit in the story.
