Like most people (women), I'd heard a lot about this book before I read it myself. And I have this hatred of reading books that everyone thinks are great... but, I really enjoyed Eat, Pray, Love! Elizabeth Gilbert writes like I talk, and experiences things similarly to how I do. Her year of traveling reminded me of my own year and the experiences I had and things that I learned, but she's gone through a lot more (you know, like marriage, divorce and 10+ more years of life) than I have so she has the opportunity for a lot more wisdom. Anyway, pretty good. I can't imagine living 3 completely different lives in one year, but I guess if it works for her, then great.
So I was looking over my bookshelves just now and, eyes alighting on the four-star rating above, found myself feeling a wee bit embarrassed. In my defense, my goodreads evaluations tend to be rooted more in enjoyability than in actual literary merit. And, given that I read Twilight when I was twelve (and had a thing for vamps long before they were cool), it should come as no surprise to anyone that I did, in fact, worship the ground that Stephenie Meyer walked on. For a while, at least. And I will stand by my earlier estimation of this book, dammit! (Even if I do feel a little dirty doing it.)
