Nicole Krauss is married to Jonathan Safran Foer (my other favorite contemporary writer), and I think they just sit around and try to out-beautiful each other with their writing. I think it's a tie.

I listened to this book. Dies the Fire is about life after an unexplained white light renders useless all products of modern technology. S.M. Stirling's view of how different personalities adapt to their new life is fascinating. I find it especially interesting because it is quite different from the picture presented by George R. Stewart in Earth Abides. My main complaint about the book is that it details too many battles for my taste.

This book is great! I could barely put it down. It's a little darker than 'The Ice Princess' and there is more background on the other member's of the police force. While that adds to the story, you can feel it shifting to be more of Patrik's story and less of Erica's (at least for this book). Since I like them a lot as a couple, that made me like the book a little less. Also, this plot was a bit darker than the first book, and I thought it was slightly less suspenseful, in the sense that the potential killers were narrowed down to a few people fairly quickly. But it's a great story, with lots of layers. I really think it's a Stieg Larsson/Agatha Cristie jumble, which is wonderful. I can't wait to read the next book; and the 4th comes out later this month! I'd recommend this to anyone who likes suspense or mystery. She's a great writer, with a good eye for detail.
