One of many examples of a good contemporary romance. The characters are all from a small picture postcard like town. This particular book focuses on a dad and his son who he has never seen, but who is suddenly brought into his life. My one issue with the book was about 150 pages in when at the end of a chapter it suddenly shifts to the story of another group of people living in the same town but with little to do with the original story.

I think, like the rest of the world, I was gripped when news of Jaycee's 'rescue' after 18 years in captivity hit the headlines. This book chronicles those years and the events leading up to and following on from them in deeply affecting words. To read about the innocence that was taken away from her, the strength she found in her two girls that helped her cope at times when lesser people would have broken down and to see how her life and she as a person has changed from then to now is thought provoking. It is likely that Jaycee will never truly be able to put the events of her past behind her, but inn writing this book and sharing her story with the world, she has talen a huge leap forward into what I certainly hope is a better and brighter future.

Can't say I liked this one. Third-person might have been a better choice for Meursault.

I liked it. I enjoyed the manner of the narration, and how it jumped from present to past and gave some perspective. The characters were interesting, if a little static, and maybe just a little charicatured. By that, I mean that they were believable, but we never really got to know more about anyone than their basic descriptive characteristics. But this was a book based on plot rather than characters, so it was fine. It was even almost enthralling at points. What amuses me is that when I was still working at the bookstore, and this had recently come out in paperback and was all over bestseller lists, there were a lot of customers buying it. And more than one of our regulars said that they'd really enjoyed it, except for the violence against the animals. Here's why this amused me: there was just as much, if not more, violence toward humans, but clearly they were totally fine with that!

I can add little to what others have said about the book. This is a book that everyone, particularly women, should read, a great treasure of British literature and a landmark in the development of the novel. May I also recommend an audio version--number 3 on Librivox, read by Elizabeth Klett. Even after reading the book many times, I found listening to it to be a real treat, and I heard things that I overlooked in reading.

What's to say. I love Stephanie Plum and I love to laugh. I discovered this series quite by accident and I am so glad I did.
