This book gives you a fascinating look into women's lives in Iran, before and after the revolution. From the perspective of a literature teacher in one of Tehran's leading universities, it is truly heartbreaking to see how the revolution affected the lives of Iranians. The book is about a book club, but so much more.
Jasper Fforde = one of my favorite authors. So finding a new series that tied into the one I'd already been reading = excellent. I did't love this book.....but it was good enough for me to read the whole thing and be excited about another book in the series.
I just started reading this book and so far I love it. Zadie Smith is a wonderful writer!
I read this for a book club (notably an all female book club) and thought it was a really interesting conversation starter. I wouldn't recommend this book to a guy necessarily--it focuses so much on a woman's fears or marrying and having kids and think some of that might get lost on a male audience. No offense of course. I also made my mom read it right after the book club and she is completely wrapped up in it now...
