This is one of my most memorable assigned college reads. The real story of the monster (not, in face, named Frankenstein) is very tragic. I'll never get over how much I loved the monster in this novel.
I chose this book because I'm working on a fantasy children's novel of my own and thought reading a successful one (New York Times bestseller list) would help me learn about different styles and concepts of this age group. I was really impressed by the writing style and the modernism in this book. This is a story about a preteen mermaid, which turns out to be refreshingly and imaginatively written in today's times using today's typical problems of that age group along with their "language" used. Great book for 8 to 12 year olds!
The Good Earth is such a classically good read. It is not terribly rich in literary merit, but it is such a fabulous interesting read. This is a perfect summer book where you want to be inspired and enjoy classic literature, but don't want to labor through the pages.
