Interesting perspective. I enjoyed the humor, as well.
Very good book. I was impressed by the sharp attention to period detail - it was perfectly done, in my opinion, giving me lots of detail to "put me in the place" but doing it in such a way that I didn't feel like I was reading a lecture about the period. Libba Bray did a good job building surprising relationships between the characters - what could have been just flat, predictable characters were instead actual personalities, each with flaws and strengths. I know ithis is the first of a series, but I really appreciate the fact that it stands on its own feet and doesn't leave the reader dangling. The only thing I had a little trouble with (and this is about me, not the author) is that The Realms seem so inviting that I wouldn't feel any qualms about staying there.
