The actual documents and references from Ancient Times brings the eratste/eromenus relationship back to life! It tells of the strict adherence to specific codes of etiquette that must be adhered to in this delicate balancing act of mentoring a boy and having his love. It also tells the seedier side of this relationship...rejected boys...boys who take revenge...men who can't stop chasing boy well after they should stop. It tells of sapphic love, of cross-dressing men in order to attract boys. The actual document gives a window into that time. I was kind of disappointed that there were no writings about Hadrian and Antinous as there were about other famous lovers.
A man who can see what horrible fates may befall his victims if he doesn't "help" them...a woman who has lost her child...and a traveler telling the tale. This novel, in three parts, is about loss, vengeance, justice, and redemption.
