This book is extremely long and at times was hard going. It had lots of character which kept me in a state of confusion. However, this is an absolute masterpiece and worth enduring. It reminds me of 'Burn After Reading where everyone hasn't got a clue what they are doing and everything is a farce but it is so incredibly funny. It makes an absolute mockery out US Airforce Officers in the 2nd World War whilst fighting in Italy. For example Yossarin (cowardly pilot) pulled out of an operation for fear of dying and rather than the officers admit this they promote him!! This had me tittering all the way through. Here is a few lines to one chapter that made the chuckle: 'Let's operate,' said the other doctor. "Let's cut him open and get to the inside of things once and for all. He keeps complaining about his liver. His liver looks pretty small on the X ray.' 'That's his pancreas, you dope. This is his liver.' 'No it isn't. That's he heart. I'll bet you a nickel this is his liver. I'm going to operate and find out. Should I wash my hands first?' It is like this all the way through. I recommend.
