** spoiler alert ** This book, about family, race, politics, class and yes, running, was an intriguing read. I enjoyed the conceit that it all took place over a 24-hour period. The characters of the Doyle family, dad Bernard, and sons Sullivan (biological), Tip and Teddy (adopted African-American) are all dealing in various ways with their grief over the loss of mom/wife Bernadette. Lots of plot twists and a mysterious Good Samaritan who saves one of the boys from being hit by a car add to the mix. Yes, there are some errors in editing, but they didn't stop me from liking this book. The layers of discovery and great family interaction, plus Patchett's wonderful writing made it very enjoyable.
Well written and entertaining introduction to types of codes, how they work, and the history of codes and code-breaking.
