This book does not get the credit it deserves. Winn Schwartau is a talented writer and one of the most creative minds in the field of security.

A tale of men in the wilderness on the trail of something else. "For the panic of the wilderness had called to him in that far voice-the power of untamed distance- the enticement of the desolation that destroys. He knew in that moment all the pains of someone hopelessly and irretrievably lost, suffering the lust and travail of a soul in the final loneliness. A vision of Defago, eternally hunted, driven and pursued across the skiey vastness of those ancient forests fled like a flame across the dark ruin of his thoughts..."

Just read it. Trust me.

I really appreciate Briggs' approach to urban fantasy. Moon Called re-spins some basic werewolf/faerie fantasy elements and promises more novelty, all without becoming incoherent. On the other hand, i'm not as patient a reader as I might once have been and promises rarely take me past the end of the book. Briggs protagonist, Mercedes Thompson, has the obstinate underdog appeal common to this kind of storyline, but has the advantage of being more believably swept up in events rather than sticking to the egomaniacal hero/ine routine. I really think that Briggs could have pushed her character farther in this book, but I was impressed enough to look forward to the next in the series.
